WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEST PREP COACH?
To be a great test prep coach, you have to possess that elusive left/right brain balance.
An effective test prep coach is a balanced coach because he or she is working with BOTH. It's the Left Brain that assures a parent like you that your coach has mastery over all the content of the test or subject. It's the RIGHT BRAIN that allows the coach to connect with the student and teach. In the tutoring and test prep galaxy (and it's a pretty big one) there are lots of tutors who have one or the other. You may find a tutor who is an RSP (Really Smart Person) but who is a poor communicator either with the student, the parents, or both. Or you may have a tutor who is very friendly and personable, but does not have the expertise necessary to teach the material.
When you work with a balanced and effective coach you see remarkable transformations often in short periods of time. Such a coach provides guidance and support so that you can get straight to your problem areas and see strong growth in a matter of weeks
As a matter of fact, a not very well known aspect of test prep is that now, all of a sudden, your child is working one-on-one with a motivating and bright person who is not only addressing the actual testing goals, but it also nurturing and supporting your child’s innate potential to learn, think, and perform in all academic areas! Many students report that they notice overall changes in their academic work, a change in attitude, more confidence, less resistance, more ease, better time management, and a sense that subjects that were once very challenging, are becoming clearer.
