Why You Should Take a Mock Test....Seriously.

by Drew Valins, Founder of Satellite Prep

Whatever standardized test you are preparing for, taking a mock test is essential to your best game plan. But if you are a Junior in High School, it's really crunch time and here are some motivating thoughts to get yourself to a mock test ASAP!

1. IT’S SIMPLE -  You know it’s getting late in the game. You are registered to take the SAT or ACT in May or June. That’s only a month or so away. In the back of your mind you know you should do SOMETHING, but you keep putting it off. Now is your chance to do at least ONE VALUABLE thing to improve your scores. Don’t think about it. Just sign up and see what this is all about. Take my word for it, it may not be a joyride, but you will learn ALOT.

2. IT’S PRACTICE…FOR REAL - Maybe you’ve been preparing for the SAT or ACT for months. But have you really sat down and taken a full length, timed practice test? Not at home with your cellphone as a timer. I mean in a classroom, just like the REAL THING. Now is your chance. Do yourself a huge favor and put your test prep to the test! Don’t wait until the REAL OFFICIAL test. PRACTICE now!

3. IT’S REALLY, REALLY LONG - Do you feel confident with your math and reading skills? Maybe you do. But are you a “concentration athlete”? The SAT and ACT are 4 hour tests, which can be grueling. They can cause “Mental Fatigue”. Take a practice test to build up your muscles of concentration so that on the REAL TEST DAY, you are truly ready to go the distance!

4. IT’S MENTAL and EMOTIONAL - To get your tip-top test score, you need an edge. You have to be in the right mind set which means an upbeat, focused mood. How do you get there? Well, that’s for you to discover. Some students like to create a music playlist and listen on the car ride to the test. Others do push-ups to get their mind and body alert. Take a practice test and WORK OUT YOUR OWN RITUAL. See what gets you in your best mind-shape!
